CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RE-AFFIRM

COMMITTEE'S DECISION.

There was a large and thoroughly re- presentative meeting of the Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce at the which directly concerned the question of Chamber of Commerce Room on April 24th, when certain resolutions were passed the return of Germans to the Colony after the war, and also the remarks made by H.E, the Governor at the last meeting of the Legislative Council when replying to the motion proposed by the Hon. We claim that we have a right to a voice, inasmuch as while the greater Colonies will be re- presented directly by their own repre sentatives, we as a Crown Colony will be represented by the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and therefore a direct pro- nunication from this Chamber in no uncertain manner should be sent Home, quite apart from Government despatches and recommendations which might not be known to us.
